The LGBTQIA+ community is under attack domestically and abroad. Here’s how to help.
The endless news cycle and social media scrolling can have you feeling sad, anxiety-ridden, and helpless. We feel the same. It’s been a hard week listening to the relentless attacks by politicians on LGBT youth in America, threats of wrangling LGBT advocates in Ukraine and Russia. These actions can make us feel like we are going backward in the fight for human rights for the LGBTQIA+ community. All that to be said, we hear you, we feel you, we see you, we get you…
So now that we understand we aren’t alone in these feelings of loss and powerlessness, let’s focus energy on where we can help. Here is a list of resources we have found from credible sources. As always we advocate for you to do your research and journey on organizations you align with, but at least here is a starting point. Additionally, if donation support is hard for you right now consider volunteering and supporting these organizations through lobbying, community outreach, fundraising, and more.
Texas:
Equality Texas is a political advocacy organization that works to eliminate all discrimination targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
Florida:
Equality Florida is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community.
Ukraine:
International Rescue Committee helps people affected by humanitarian crises. The IRC was founded to help people survive in the face of racist violence and fascist oppression and are committed to racial and social justice.
As a Texas-based company, with a mission to donate 10% of our marketplace profits towards LGBTQIA+ organizations helping to elevate and support our community, we will be donating to Equality for Texas through the first half of this year.
